Dada, a catchy and clever three-piece alt-pop trio from Los Angeles, will play at the Blind Pig Sunday. The show coincides with the March 2 release of "How To Be Found," a 13-song CD of previously unreleased tracks written by dada and mixed by rock industry heavyweights Bob Clearmountain, Scott Gordon and Tom Lord-Alge.

The band, which features old school friends Joie Calio (vocals, bass) and Michael Gurley (guitar, keyboards), plus Phil Leavitt (drums), hit the modern rock scene in 1992 with its debut disc "Puzzle." "American Highway Flower," "El Subliminoso" followed.

From 1999-2003 little was heard from dada. "We really never went away; we just took a really long vacation to figure out what our next move was going to be," explained Calio.

"I think everybody just needed a little time off to do their own thing," Gurley added about the band's current tour. "I don't know if you'd call this a reunion so much. It was just the right time to get back together."

Dada spent the first half of 2003 playing a series of one-week stints focusing on Midwest and East Coast markets. Now the band is off and running with the current tour, which includes 31 cities in 38 days.

"It's great to be touring behind this music that the fans have never heard," said Calio. "These new songs stand on their own, and we can't wait to play them live. Plus, since we'll be together 24-7, and we've always done our best writing under those circumstances, it'll be exciting to see what other material comes from the experience."

The show may be a test of new music, but it could also be a test of audience stamina. Dada's shows have been known to run as long as three hours.

Some Odd Sense, a Virginia-based pop-rock quartet, opens.

Dada plays Sunday at the Blind Pig, 208 S. First St. Doors open at 9 p.m. Call for cover. Information: (734) 996-8555.
